Our new ultrasonic cleaning system has been having a very good workout lately.
The system consists of 7 powerful generators that excite nearly 300 transducers to produce countless ultrasonic bubbles that implode blasting away any contamination. It includes a 2,500 litre stainless steel bath of special chemicals (blended specifically for us) at temperatures of around 60oC.
One of our power station customers recently asked us to clean a very, very dirty tube stack which was being used to heat oil. The oil had been burnt and had turned to a thick tar-like goo. A big mess!
Our customer told us that in the past acids had been used to no avail and they were about to give up. Fortunately they had heard about our new ultrasonic cleaning system which has earned a great reputation tackling the hardest jobs with biodegradable solutions and without the use of dangerous acids.
We were told the tube stack was 2.5 metres long. What we received was a 4.5 metre monster, covered in thick black goo and wrapped in plastic. With an unworkable heat exchanger our customer was desperate and had nowhere else to go.
First we gave it a high pressure hosing which removed some loose gooey stuff. Then we hoisted the tube stack into our ultrasonic tank filled with special environmentally friendly solution. Our crane had no trouble lifting the tubestack into place to clean one half at a time.
Gazillions of high pressure ultrasonic bubbles, plenty of heat, our special carbon and grease attacking solution, plus lots of tender loving care and Voila!- a nice clean tube stack ready to be shipped back to its owner. Almost like new with tens of thousands of dollars saved on buying a new one.
We have had plenty of unusual items go through our ultrasonics tank, all beautifully cleaned – a 1951 Mustang Fighter Plane heat exchanger; a 1930 Rolls Royce sump and fuel tank; a 2 tonne finned heat exchanger travelled from Kalgoorlie for a good clean, test and refurbishment (“looks just like new” said our customer); lots of compressor coolers and rusted compressor screws have had nice warm, bubbly baths and come out sparkling; even Diesel Particulate Filters (Catalytic Converters) have been rejuvenated; pumps de-rusted; motorcycle engines cleaned – and the list goes on. Size doesn’t matter.
